Model updating for a large multi-span quasi-periodic viaduct based on free wave characteristics

Quasi-periodic structures, as found in multi-span bridges, multi-bay and multi-storey buildings, are often characterized by a high modal density, even at low frequencies. This clustering of modes poses challenges operational analysis, well finite element model updating, where pairing experimental numerically predicted is required. To overcome these difficulties, an alternative method for updating based on the so-called free wave characteristics has recently been proposed. In this work, applied to calibrate K032 viaduct A11 highway Bruges, Belgium. Vibration measurements conducted experimentally determine viaduct. discrepancy between calculated identified minimized. The results validated comparing measured frequency response functions with those obtained from updated model.
